Recreation can be a significant factor in rehabilitation, and the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation offers a full array of recreational services and facilities. These services and facilities are available for patients, students, guests, and the community year round. The recreation facilities on campus consist of:

Created by well-known designer Donald Ross, the Roosevelt Memorial Golf Course first opened in 1926. Both Camp Dream and the Frank C. Ruzycki Center for Therapeutic Recreation were built in the mid 1990s. They provide places where persons with disabilities can achieve recreational independence in a totally accessible environment.
Located on the site of a U.S. Marine installation during FDR's presidency, Camp Dream is a modern, 74-acre camp designed to provide all persons with disabilities a quality recreational experience in a natural but fully accessible setting. Camp Dream provides opportunities not normally available to persons with disabilities. Some of the features of Camp Dream include:

Campers also have access to the Frank C. Ruzycki Center for Therapeutic Recreation for use of all the activities located at the RCTR. An application packet is available by contacting Camp Dream.

The Frank C. Ruzycki Center for Therapeutic Recreation is a state-of-the-art recreational complex, which opened in 1996 just before the Paralympic Games in Atlanta. The entire RCTR complex is fully-accessible with many features, including:

Nestled at the north end of the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation campus off Highway 27A, the Roosevelt Memorial Golf Course is a nine-hole, public course founded in 1926. Designed by world famous golf course creator Donald Ross, encompassing 3,100 yards as a par 35 (70 for 18 holes), it has hosted the likes of inaugural starter Bobby Jones, Sam Snead and polio vaccine developer Jonas Salk. According to legend, Donald Ross sketched out the original 18-hole design for FDR on a napkin at the Meriwether Inn but the back-nine holes were never completed. Annual memberships, including Individual, Family, and Senior (60 and over) are available to the community. For more information or to schedule a round, call 706-655-5230.

The Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is committed to the community, and as such makes its recreational services and facilities available to the public to the extent possible. Individuals throughout the area can take advantage of the recreational opportunities offered at the Institute by taking part in any or all of the Community Programs offered. Recreation therapists trained in both land and aquatic instruction direct the classes, which can increase strength, balance, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. The programs also provide social opportunities and motivation for other health improvements. Some of these include:

To participate in the classes, one must be a current RCTR community member, complete an application, and attend an orientation session. In addition to these classes, RCTR Community Members are also encouraged to participate in various events throughout the year, including luncheons and picnics.
