Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is a state-operated comprehensive rehabilitation center located in Warm Springs, Georgia on a beautiful 950 acre campus. Begun by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1927 to treat persons affected by polio, the Institute still remains true to its original mission today "to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve personal independence" as a living legacy to FDR. Each year the Institute provides rehabilitation services to approximately 5,000 individuals with all types of disabilities from all over the United States. In addition to its continuum of rehabilitation services, the Institute also offers the fully-accessible Camp Dream, which is enjoyed by 2,000 disabled campers each year, as well as a year-round Conference Center offering a full array of professional training opportunities. Guided tours of Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation are available weekdays at 11 am and 2 pm.

Encompassing 940 acres and located at the eastern edge of Pine Mountain, the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation offers a serenity that has made it a perfect place for rehabilitation of the body, mind and spirit for more than eight decades. A combination of both historic and modern buildings, its campus greatly resembles a college setting. Guided tours are offered every weekday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and both maps and self-guided tour brochures are available at the Georgia Hall Information Desk.

FROM ATLANTA
Take I-85 south towards Montgomery, AL. Exit south at Exit 41 onto Highway 27A (Exit 41) and proceed south passing through Moreland, Luthersville and Greenville. Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is on the right just before the City of Warm Springs. Driving time from Atlanta: 1 hour 30 minutes.
FROM MACON
Take Highway 74 west towards Thomaston and continue on Highway 74 to Woodbury. At Woodbury, take Highway 85A southwest to Warm Springs. Proceed through the City of Warm Springs and turn right onto Highway 27A. Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is approximately 1/4 mile on the left. Driving time from Macon: 1 hour 20 minutes.
FROM COLUMBUS
Take Highway 27A (Manchester Expressway) northeast to Warm Springs. Proceed through the City of Warm Springs and turn left at the traffic light, continuing north on 27A. Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is approximately 1/4 mile on the left. Driving time from Columbus: 45 minutes.
FROM LAGRANGE
Take Highway 109 east to Greenville and Highway 27A South to Warm Springs. Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is on the right just before the City of Warm Springs. Driving time from LaGrange: 30 minutes.
FROM ALBANY
Take Highway 19 north to Thomaston, and turn west onto Highway 74 to Woodbury. At Woodbury, take Highway 85A southwest to Warm Springs. Proceed through the City of Warm Springs and turn right onto Highway 27A. Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is approximately 1/4 mile on the left. Driving time from Albany: 2 hours 30 minutes.
With approximately 450 employees, the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is the second largest employer in Meriwether County. Staff members commute from throughout West Central Georgia and beyond. A close knit community of workers, they are active participants in the affairs of Roosevelt Warm Springs.

LEADERSHIP REDWOOD:
This is a program to develop and nurture a pool of leadership talent to ensure that the Institute is led effectively in the present and the future. Based on staff nominations, a Leadership Redwood class is selected each year to participate in a year-long series of opportunities for personal growth and professional development. Activities include a retreat, interviews with business leaders, training, and culminate in an Institute-wide project presented at graduation. Redwood alumni continue to meet yearly.

Blanchard Hall, a state-of-the-art outpatient therapy center, opening January 2008.

Governor Perdue appropriated $9.9 million in the FY 08 State of Georgia budget, to be matched dollar for dollar by the Rehabilitation Services Administration, to build a new vocational rehabilitation residential village, with construction to begin in Fall 2008.

Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is working on becoming a federally-designated rehabilitation center for the U.S. Military to serve injured soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Other new services at Roosevelt Warm Springs to include: expansion of services for the blind, deaf and deaf-blind; additional customized vocational rehabilitation skill training programs; micro-enterprising services; and a REBOOT computer training and employment program.
